For those of you who follow my blog, you will be aware that I have been busy recently with a prototype for a ‘cabinet’ (in the loosest of meanings!) in a local library. That is part of much bigger plans for a touring project. If you are a library, museum or heritage organisation you will very likely be interested to know more, and I’d love to tell you!

The Cabinet Project is the beginning of a new body of work that explores museum collections, archives and libraries. Flow Contemporary Arts aims to commission artworks specifically with touring in mind.

 For six months Carolyn has been researching different models of touring artworks and how she might initiate a project that is not frozen in time, but one that grows as it evolves. One that considers past, present and the future (often the idea of a cabinet, a library or collection is only an archive of history). One that allows people at each place the work visits to engage meaningfully with the artworks, and add to the content of this growing collection, and adapt the artworks in response to the various places and people.

I have some excellent artists and cabinets lined up and ready to run! Ranging from interactive automata to performing librarians, sounds files and objects, each one engages fully with audiences providing a unique experience for visitors.
