Flow Contemporary Arts 1st newsletter of 2016

new projects- new office – new thinking

I can’t believe it is already March 2016!

It’s been a while since I wrote a newsletter, the last one was in the autumn of 2015, when the Bideford Black project launched at The Burton in Devon. It was a fab show and offered many new understandings of the local earth pigment.

March finds me contracted as a project manager on the Paying Artists Campaign – something I am passionate about. I’m also doing consultancy work in the SW region with three arts organisations, helping to write project briefs, business plan development and contributing to new opportunities for artists.

The Story of Objects discovery stage is now complete and I have learned lots of useful things, such as what a value proposition is.

I’m now signing up host partners for the next phase, which will not only be the lovely show & tell sessions, but will include making workshops too. I’m keen to connect the objects we keep and love with ideas about making and continuing to use them. Or be inspired by them. Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss some ideas – each workshop is created to respond to clients needs – to relate to events, local industries, particular tools, skills or materials – it’s an open invitation. Current conversations include plants and propagation, writing books, printing blocks, recipes, patterns – there are no limits. I’m keen to collaborate, not merely deliver.

As for Flow Contemporary Arts, the next step forward is becoming a registered business – I’m working on that at the moment and will share information when I finally get there. One step is taking an office in Gloucester – I’ve found a lovely place in the GRC building, where the Scrap Store is – and am in the process of moving in. Exciting! AND they do yoga at lunch time once a week so it looks like I’ve landed on my feet (and knees and back!)

All the research I’ve done feeds into new projects, so hopefully I’ll be able to expand Flow in my new office base to create new opportunities and ensure more flow in the arts in 2016.

I'm an artist and also commission contemporary art in unusual locations. As a producer, I fundraise, curate, project manage and deliver projects. I'm also a writer and film-maker.
