Studio Thinking Part 2 – looking from the past to the future

Studio Thinking part 2 – the 2nd November. Interesting reading the words that I wrote three days ago. It’s very cathartic to write like that, so I’m going to continue a little bit longer. I left off having talked about panoramic photos, videos and photography and told myself I would write more about printmaking andContinue reading “Studio Thinking Part 2 – looking from the past to the future”

Banking on things – gambling with the Earth

Last night I attended an online talk by Gabriella Hirst, hosted by Rebecca Farkas. It was very interesting and thought provoking.  I learned that in Australia they use the term ‘banker’ when a river overflows its sides/banks. That made me think of other similar terms, such as banking on something happening; banking as in trade.Continue reading “Banking on things – gambling with the Earth”

Hambling, Wollstonecraft & statues – might it be humour?

Firstly, the thoughts I share here are merely that. I have not seen Hambling’s work that is ‘for’ Wollstonecraft, nor have I seen the Aldeburgh work. I only know them from images. I would not usually comment on works I have not actually seen ‘in the flesh’ so to speak, but on this occasion IContinue reading “Hambling, Wollstonecraft & statues – might it be humour?”

Anticipation, expectation and delivery – a post-referendum interpretation of the visitor experience of the Berlin Biennial 2016

I recently attended the 2016 Berlin Bienniale, alongside ten other arts professionals from the region, with the support of a bursary provided by Visual Arts South West. Prior to going we read some of the reviews of the Biennial which were not very promising. The article in the Guardian by Jason Farago had the headlineContinue reading “Anticipation, expectation and delivery – a post-referendum interpretation of the visitor experience of the Berlin Biennial 2016”
